Blog

Why?

I did it!  Finally!

I’ve only been talking about it for, oh 3 years, or some such.  But the day has finally come.  Insert smiley emoji.

I created a blog.  It was easier than I thought, really, but I can already tell it’s going to take every ounce of technology savviness I can muster up in order to keep it going in any way, shape, or form.  I’ll try.

For the longest time I’ve felt thoughts swirling around in my head.  “I should really write that down.” Or “If I could just sit down and write it out, it’d be easier to process what I’m thinking.”  As with most things in my life, though, it takes me quite a while to actually do whatever that said thing is.

Point proven… 3 years later, I created it.  And that is all for now.  I will slooowly work to add to it as my crazy life allows.  Don’t judge the silly background pictures that have absolutely nothing to do with me, my family, my likes, hobbies, interests, or anything at all r/t me.  I’ll get there.  Maybe.  Someday. [My life motto.]

Here’s the real question…

Why today though?  What was different about today than the other 365 days x 3years (I don’t do math!  That’s my sweet hubby’s strong suit.  Hence the opposites attract and compliment one another thing.) that I thought I should start a blog but never did?

And here’s the answer…

Today was TOUGH!  ROUGH!  One of those, ‘I really don’t know what I was thinking when I had children’ kind of days!  Oh my goodness was it ever!

It was an all-out U-G-L-Y cry day.  If you are a mama/woman, you know exactly what I mean!  And if you’re a daddy/man, you don’t have a clue about the ugly cry part, but the clueless, ‘what the heck is wrong  with her’ ‘how can I fix her/it/the problem/anything’ thought process>> you totally get it.

Anyway, it was BAD!  Seriously bad!  {By the way I’m sorry for the 15 million exclamation points, the use of the words so/anyway/crazy, and the nursing abbreviations that will unknowingly make their appearance t/o the duration of this blog.  It’s just a thing that I do.  And I can’t seem to get away from it, try as I might.}

Okay, okay.  Another side bar.  I’m like 99.99% sure I have severe ADD too.  No diagnosis, but WHOA!  All of you lovelies that know me personally, especially Laura, are laughing out loud right now, literally.  I just have to let you know that upfront so you don’t go nuts as you read this.

Moving on and back to the point. The day was rough, tough, bad, hard, challenging, basically all the adjectives that mean long, drawn out, tear-invoking, etc. and so forth.  Again, mamas you know what I’m saying here.

So I decided {{today’s the day.}}  I need a place to verbal vomit [sorry, just being real]sometimes and a place to share my thoughts.  Sure, Microsoft word works, but a blog is prettier and much more fun.  And pen and paper are great, but I can’t even seem to write the thank you notes I need to write, there’s no way I’m going to grab a pen and paper to write anything more.

With that, there may be a strong number of hard day posts, but I hope to mix in the cheery stuff too and the ridiculous kiddo quotes and stories that unfold before my very eyes and ears almost non-stop.  After all with four kids, 6 and under, there’s bound to be a lot of those.

I laugh at this moment as I read through what I’ve written thus far.  Why?  Because I was in tears, on the couch, staring blankly at the Christmas tree one hour ago thinking “I’m not even sure what I’m thinking, so I’ll just start the blog I’ve always wanted to and I’ll type out my thoughts.  That’ll fix my issue.”  [Right.  Like typing out your struggle fixes the issue.  No.  But it does make you feel better.  And it certainly helps you gain some clarity.]

Rather unnaturally, I jumped up, grabbed the laptop, and started googling ‘free blog sites/how to start a free blog’.  Now an hour and a half, a blog creation, and many keystrokes later, I feel much better about my no good, bad, awful, horrible day.  And the funny part is, I didn’t even go into the details of the day.  I’m thinking all my ideas of a blog being therapeutic are 100% on pointe.

With that, I’ll leave you.  Thanks for reading my ridiculously random, severely fragmented, all over the page thoughts, and joining me on a journey through this crazy ride called LIFE at {The Derry Farm}!

-Leah

P.S.  I chuckle at The Derry Farm because while I have openly longed for a beautiful country home with lots of land and farm animals, I’m the biggest city girl around and I have very little interest in animals.  Children yes, animals no.  Additionally, my hubby hated likening his name to ‘dairy’ anything, especially a farm or a cow, growing up, and here I am creating a blog entitled The Derry Farm as he sleeps next me on the couch.  Oh the irony! 🙂
